Report From the Front Lines

My evil twin dropped off Baby Girl at the evil new day care on Monday and, well, and, um, she was fine. She didn’t even cry. She went into the caregiver’s arms and was interested in joining the other kids.

Then, Blue Eyes picked her up early in the afternoon, and, um, well, she was fine again.

Just fine. Sweet and happy. A little tired from the new nap schedule. Healthy. Smiling. Just fine.

There is so much letting go that has to happen when you have daycare kids. Plus, there’s that working mom guilt that nags at us. Try to keep in mind that Baby Girl is in very good hands. The people that work at daycares like the one she’s going to are heavily screened and carefully chosen. They don’t make much money, so they have to LOVE kids very much. Your daughter is feeling that love while she’s there, and I doubt she ever feels abandoned like your guilt tries to convince you. Plus, she is learning invaluable social skills. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the good thoughts! Sophia has been doing well, mostly it is me who is having the hard time. I’m focusing on the time when I’m with her, being really present and giving her tons of kisses. I think we are both going to make it.
