I disagree. Sears' research on this says that for babies that wake up in the night, the parents get more sleep. But, other research shows that when babies sleep in a crib, after 3-4 months, they don't wake up. And I'm pretty sure about which parents get more sleep then! That was my experience and given how much energy was required during the day, I really appreciated the full nights of sleep.

Just wanted you to know that co-sleeping nursing momma's get MORE sleep, not less. Babies wake up just as often no matter where they sleep, but I don't have to get out of bed and run down the hall, and stay awake for a half hour ( about how long it always took my older bottle fed child to eaat his midnight snacks) to meet babies need. I just roll over give it to him and go back to sleep.
